What is chained? Print

  • 35

Some SSL Providers such as Comodo (InstantSSL) and FreeSSL (ChainedSSL) offer SSL certificates that are issued using an "intermediate" root certificate. This is what makes a SSL cert "Chained" as when you use a intermediate root certificate it forms a trust-chain that begins at the trusted root CA, through the intermediate and finally ending with the SSL certificate issued to you.
